For much of my life, I felt like failure was my constant companion. Imagine introducing myself as Christie "Failure" Harrison—quite the catchy name, right? Over the last eight years, I faced a series of significant setbacks: a broken marriage, the loss of my dream job, and deteriorating health. It was a time when I certainly wasn’t winning at life.

After yet another disappointing experience, I decided to delve deeper into my circumstances. I began jotting down my thoughts and posed a few fundamental questions to myself: What strategies had been effective? What had fallen short? What could I approach differently in the future? Most crucially, how could I leverage this feedback to help me reach my goals?

That's when everything clicked for me. I realized that dedicating time to reflect on my actions and cultivate self-awareness opened the door to remarkable personal growth. Why was this important? Because I learned to view my failures as valuable feedback.

This revelation was transformative. I finally grasped how to set and achieve my goals, leading me to develop a method I call “The Cycle of Positive Change.”

So how does this cycle operate? It can be summarized in five key steps: Action, Reflect, Learn, Grow, and Repeat.

  1. Action: Take a small step toward your goal. For instance, I decided to increase my treadmill running time.
  2. Reflect: After taking action, spend time journaling about your experience. Ask yourself questions like: How did I feel about this increase? Why did I struggle towards the end? What changes can I implement next time?
  3. Learn: Analyze your reflections. For example, I discovered that doubling my running time was too ambitious, and I needed to strengthen my glutes and improve my running posture to avoid discomfort.
  4. Grow: Utilize these insights to take further steps toward your goal. I dedicated a week to enhancing my glute exercises and improving my core strength, which enabled me to run without pain.
  5. Repeat: Continue this process until you accomplish your goals. My next step involved adding sprints to my routine, followed by the same evaluation process.

It may sound straightforward, but that’s the beauty of it!

Understanding Why This Method Works

The primary reason this approach is effective is that it turns failure into feedback. Let me emphasize this point: failure is feedback. It’s the hidden treasure of personal development! Each setback, struggle, or challenge contains vital information that can propel you forward.

Moreover, this cycle cultivates motivation, resilience, and a positive mindset. You become more adept at handling challenges and more receptive to constructive criticism.

Applying the Cycle to Your Life

This method can be utilized in any facet of life—be it your career, relationships, hobbies, or health. With determination and consistency, “The Cycle of Positive Change” can yield significant results because self-awareness combined with reflection is the cornerstone of self-mastery.
