Why I Took a Break from LinkedIn and Focused on My Goals

Written on

Chapter 1: The Pressure of LinkedIn

There are times when I find myself stepping away from LinkedIn, primarily because it introduces an unnecessary level of stress that I don’t currently need. As I scroll through my feed, I often feel an urge to accomplish more, to learn more, and to achieve more. This pressure can be overwhelming and is precisely why I decided to take a break.

Ultimately, I believe life is a balance of long-term and short-term objectives. To reach my long-term goals, I need to envision where I see myself in 10 to 15 years and take consistent steps to ensure I'm progressing toward that vision. Short-term goals, on the other hand, represent what I aim to achieve in the present moment. Once I accomplish one of these goals, I allow myself to relax, absorb the experience, and derive valuable lessons from it. Only then do I consider my next steps.

While LinkedIn can be a beneficial tool at certain points, it can also be counterproductive during phases when I’m focused on personal growth. The platform often fosters a sense of inadequacy, making users feel like they must constantly strive for more. This mindset is not inherently bad, but when it becomes a daily norm, it can lead to unhealthy habits.

I want to share this perspective with others who may feel similarly: it's important to be gentle with yourself. Surviving your current circumstances is an accomplishment in itself. Securing a stable job or income is an achievement, and finding happiness or success in your current situation is equally significant. You don't need to be in a perpetual state of seeking motivation to avoid burnout. Sometimes, the best course of action is to step back from the digital pressures and concentrate on the tangible challenges in your life, rather than worrying about when to showcase your next success or how to promote yourself on LinkedIn.
