Navigating the Landscape of Our Thoughts: Insights and Reflections

Chapter 1: The Genesis of Our Thoughts
Reflecting on my past experiences in stock trading, I recall being warned by experienced individuals against engaging in stocks. Despite their cautionary tales about the pitfalls they encountered, I remained steadfast in my beliefs until reality finally struck. This journey led me to reassess my obsessions, which brings us to today's focus: "Our Thoughts."
How Our Thoughts Are Formed
Initially, our thoughts are shaped by external influences, primarily stemming from the guidance of our parents and education systems. In our naivety, we absorb these teachings without questioning their validity, accepting them as our guiding principles. As we encounter various life experiences, these beliefs evolve; they might either transform into something entirely different or become reinforced through our trials.
How to Solidify Our Beliefs
The firmness of our beliefs often derives from the emotional highs and lows we experience through our actions. When aiming for desired outcomes or striving to evade undesirable results, we align our actions with our preconceived notions. This anticipation of consequences solidifies our convictions.
The Challenge of Changing Our Thoughts
Once established, our thoughts can be incredibly resistant to change, much like frozen water that has taken on a distinct shape. When confronted with differing perspectives, we tend to cling to our viewpoints, resembling a form of self-defense. Even if we acknowledge the validity of opposing ideas, we might instinctively reject them, allowing our "thinking iceberg" to remain largely unchanged. While it may shift slightly, we often find ways to revert to our original beliefs.
When Will Our Minds Change?
We rarely abandon our firmly held beliefs unless the pain or joy we experience surpasses what our thoughts can accommodate. This notion reflects the idea that sometimes, we must experience a significant disruption before we can reshape our beliefs, akin to melting and reforming ice into a new structure.
Embracing Open-Mindedness
While it is essential to possess mature beliefs, we must also be receptive to scrutiny and challenges. Only those thoughts that withstand the trials of life deserve a place in our mental toolbox for decision-making. When our beliefs face questioning, we should resist the urge to dismiss contrary views outright. Instead, we should engage with those inquiries, seeking answers to any uncertainties we hold.
Life is finite; we may spend our entire existence searching for clarity without ever finding it. However, the answers we seek might be simpler than we imagine, perhaps already within our grasp, waiting for us to recognize them.
This video, titled "Where Do Our Thoughts Come From?", delves into the origins of our thoughts, exploring how they are influenced by our experiences and surroundings.
Chapter 2: The Nature of Change in Our Thoughts
In "Our Thoughts Don't Come From the Mind," this video examines the deeper sources of our thoughts and challenges conventional ideas about thought formation.
