Navigating Falling Stats: A Philosophical Approach to Priorities

Chapter 1: Understanding the Decline
Let’s be straightforward: I've noticed a drop in my statistics (both reads and earnings) over the last month after experiencing a period of significant growth.
During those remarkable months, I earned over $400 monthly simply by engaging in what I love—writing and sharing my thoughts on Medium.
From humble beginnings, where I made just 19 cents in November, my earnings eventually grew to cover my utility bills—definitely a win!
Yet, the recent decline can be traced back to my own choices. I began to shift my focus away from consistent writing on Medium. With commitments like developing my core offering, participating in calls, and preparing for my insurance exam, I've felt drained.
My creativity seems to ebb and flow with my energy levels and the number of tasks on my plate. Consequently, I decided to reduce my writing frequency from daily to a more regular schedule.
Unfortunately, this was not the best decision.
Looking at my output, you can see the stark contrast:
February: (Published 63 articles)
March: (Published 36 articles)
This brings us to a critical juncture in our thinking: should we view these fluctuations as normal, or is there a deeper issue at play?
Section 1.1: Two Perspectives on Challenges
Choosing the first perspective—"Ups and downs are normal"—acknowledges that external factors often influence our journey. It suggests that struggles are simply part of life’s rhythm and should not be overly concerning.
Alternatively, "there might be more to it" hints at the possibility that the challenges we face stem from underlying issues that merit further investigation.
These ups and downs may be indicators of deeper problems that need to be addressed.
What would you choose? What course of action would you take?
- The viewpoint of "Ups and downs are normal" promotes resilience and recognizes that life naturally includes both triumphs and trials.
- The idea that "there might be more to it" fosters a more analytical mindset, encouraging us to dive deeper into our circumstances.
Section 1.2: Integrating Resilience and Investigation
When it comes to human thought processes and decision-making, it doesn't have to be an either/or dilemma—resilience versus investigation.
We can merge elements from both perspectives, leveraging the human brain’s exceptional capacity for nuanced thinking.
"The bamboo that bends is stronger than the oak that resists. But sometimes it's wise to shape the wind." — Lao Tzu
There are moments when it’s beneficial to attempt to influence and mold the situations around us. Conversely, there are times when acceptance is the best approach.
Ultimately, your personal goals and motivations dictate your actions.
At this juncture, I've decided to increase my writing frequency for the foreseeable future, and I have my reasons.
