You Can Embrace Your True Self During Transitions

Chapter 1: Embracing Authenticity
Welcome to the "Letters through the Transition" series. These articles are crafted to uplift and motivate you as you navigate the changes from your past self to your future aspirations.
Here’s your letter.
You don't need to alter every aspect of who you are. While this may seem counterintuitive, allow me to clarify.
Certainly, we strive to transform our lives and address any detrimental habits or mindsets we possess. However, I’m referring to the core of your being.
Let me illustrate this with an example.
I have a naturally vibrant and sociable personality. When interacting with others, I enjoy humor and engaging conversations. I often get excited easily and can’t help but showcase my passions. Yet, I also value my privacy and hold respect for those around me.
In the past, this personality trait has led to challenges. I often attracted individuals who sought to manipulate or take advantage of others. Back then, I lacked the insight I possess now and mistakenly believed that my essence was the issue.
I thought my kindness was a flaw and that my friendliness was why some people reacted negatively toward me. I believed I was the problem.
In an effort to protect myself from such negativity, I suppressed my natural warmth, creating a facade that was anything but me.
This attempt to change who I was left me feeling miserable. I disliked every moment of pretending to be someone I wasn’t.
This is what I mean by altering your essence.
If you naturally have a cooler demeanor, you don’t need to adopt a bubbly personality to change your life. You can embrace your true self if that’s what you choose. Of course, some people genuinely wish to transform their essence, which is perfectly valid. However, it’s essential to recognize that such a transformation isn’t a prerequisite for achieving your goals.
Returning to my earlier example, I ultimately chose not to modify my essence. Instead, I identified the real issue: I was not attracting certain individuals due to my personality, but rather because of my low self-esteem and lack of boundaries, among other areas needing attention.
Indeed, there are aspects of our essence that may not serve us well, but we are continuously evolving. We refine our essence rather than discard it. As I grew in self-worth and established healthy boundaries, I did present myself differently than before, but the core of who I was remained unchanged. I merely trimmed some of the rough edges to allow my true self to flourish.
Again, changing your essence is a personal choice, but it is not essential for achieving your dreams. You can be genuinely yourself.
You know what path suits you best.
