Self-confidence is not an innate trait; it requires intentional care and nurturing, much like a delicate bonsai tree. While some individuals appear to possess an effortless self-assurance, the reality is that this quality can be cultivated.

This leads us to a critical question: What are the sources of self-confidence, and can we emulate those who seem to have it naturally?

To explore this, we identify two primary sources of self-confidence:

Section 1.1: External Validation

External validation comes from the approval and recognition of others, such as family, friends, and colleagues. Engaging with others and receiving positive feedback can significantly enhance one's self-confidence. This validation feels rewarding and is crucial to our social dynamics.

However, what occurs when this external validation diminishes?

Relying solely on external factors can be problematic, as they are subject to change—political climates, trends, and societal expectations can shift unexpectedly, altering the messages that support our self-confidence.

Section 1.2: Internal Validation

Internal validation, on the other hand, stems from acknowledging your own capabilities and worth. Although building internal confidence is more challenging, it proves to be the most resilient foundation when consistently nurtured.

So, which source is superior?

Both forms of validation have their significance, but a strong internal foundation is essential. When we establish our self-worth internally, external validation can enhance our self-beliefs without undermining them. It's important to discern between dismissing negative feedback that can hinder growth and rejecting comments that aim to distort our self-image.

Chapter 2: The Importance of Action

The world is ever-changing, and if we depend exclusively on external sources for self-confidence, we risk emotional turmoil, leading us to retreat and diminish ourselves. This retreat sends signals to our unconscious mind, reinforcing feelings of insignificance.

Many self-help advocates emphasize the power of our internal dialogue, but it's equally crucial to recognize that our actions significantly shape our behaviors, which in turn influence our internal narratives.

We cannot wait for external confirmation of our worth; we must actively demonstrate it to ourselves through our daily actions, particularly those performed in solitude. Our unconscious mind absorbs these experiences as lessons.

Consider the influence of your behavior on a young child. The unconscious mind operates similarly, absorbing the examples we set. If we withdraw after experiencing hurt, we reinforce a narrative of worthlessness. Conversely, if we persist despite setbacks, we communicate a message of inherent value.

By consistently engaging in actions that align with our desired identity, we can construct a robust foundation of self-confidence that minimizes the need for external validation.
