Chapter 1: The Struggle to Start

Today, I decided to approach writing a poem, something I haven't done in quite a while. It's time to shake off the dust and see what I can create!

Drring… Drring — oh no, not that dreaded alarm clock again.

All I want is to enjoy a little extra sleep.

I have no desire to leave the comfort of my bed.

Please, don’t put me through this; show a little mercy, restless mind.

Yet, you made a promise to yourself to rise and go for a run.

Sure, but as the saying goes, “easier said than done.”

I think I’ll skip today; I’ll postpone it until tomorrow.

Once again, congratulations — you’ve chosen the easy path.

Urrgghh, why can’t I just forget about it and drift back to sleep?

Must I really put myself through this? It can’t be that crucial.

But deep down, I know it is; it's all about commitment:

Do I want to spend the day regretting what I could have accomplished but didn’t?

No, I can’t stand that thought; I won’t allow myself to revert to my old ways.

The old me would have given in at the first opportunity, lamenting, “Oh, how unfortunate.”

But that’s not who I am anymore; that’s not James Moore.

I must rise and prove to myself that I’ve changed.

Just take that initial step, and keep moving forward.

With each stride, the strength within you will continue to grow.

So, that’s what I did: I got up and laced up my running shoes.

Fourteen kilometers later, I’m here writing this poem, a reminder that as long as you persevere, you can never truly fail!

It was a fun challenge to craft a poem about my day!

I might be a bit rusty, with some awkward phrasing, but this is what I have for now.

Remember, whenever you find yourself struggling with a task you know you need to tackle… Just take that first step — and keep going from there.
