Historically, my profession faced significant scrutiny. The corporation subjected me to numerous profile assessments and personality evaluations to ensure I was a suitable candidate—non-discriminatory and law-abiding.

However, AI does not undergo such scrutiny. Algorithms can embody biases and fabricate information without anyone being the wiser, constantly creating 'New Truths' at a speed that can outpace thought itself.

Generative artificial intelligence advanced so rapidly that it began to infiltrate the legal sector. The firm I was with decided to pilot a new AI Legal Assistant software. Within six months, we observed a marked increase in efficiency, with the firm proudly claiming to save substantial time on contract analysis. They were eager to bill clients for hours they didn’t actually work, leading to unexpectedly high profits in the first quarter.

The firm soon recognized the potential to optimize operations by reducing our paralegal team by 94%. The unsettling truth was that many did not even notice when they were let go. One partner joked about enjoying the Digestives now that there were fewer staff around, and no one objected to the extra bonuses come Christmas.

There also emerged a demand for affordable domestic AI Legal Assistants—akin to a sophisticated ChatGPT. Many felt empowered with access to low-cost legal services, especially in the wake of Legal Aid cuts, garnering satisfaction even from the more socially conscious groups.

Yet, the initial iterations of this technology were rudimentary. Ultimately, individuals found themselves in complicated situations that required the expertise of real lawyers to resolve. The corporation aggressively marketed Legal AI Apps, despite their glitches. When clients encountered issues, firms like mine positioned themselves as the solution.

For a time, this was a lucrative business model—a legal racket, if you will. We engaged in legally binding transactions, only to be compensated for unraveling the mess. The corporation acquired smaller law firms, like Hot Cross Buns, and replaced them with AI Generative Counsel, fulfilling Shakespeare's prophecy of a lawyer-less world.

The software harnessed data from every legal text known, generating facts and laws at a pace that undermined the legislative process. Algorithms cannot be prosecuted; there are no ethical guidelines governing them, as data tracking has become obsolete. Consequently, the corporation tightened its grip on Truth and Law, with no governmental intervention possible, rendering the courts mere relics of history.

As a result, human rights became meaningless, justice evaporated, and stability hinged on the corporation's whims. Equality was a farce, and democracy faded when the law lost its essence. This was once a noble profession. I’m grateful my mother passed away while it still held value.
