Navigating Medium After the Purge: A Month of Reflection
Written on
Chapter 1: A Fresh Start
In the wake of the recent Medium purge, my activity has notably decreased. It's been roughly a month since that event, and I've observed that several accounts have been reinstated. While I believe Medium's intentions are commendable, their execution leaves much to be desired. This realization leads me to question the possibility of future occurrences. Consequently, I've opted to limit my posts to one or two blogs weekly.
My current weekly schedule consists of:
- A Medium blog each week
- A newsletter every Sunday
- A personal blog weekly
Section 1.1: Coaching Business Development
As some may be aware, I had aspirations to launch a Life Coaching business. Over time, this concept has evolved into a dual focus on Personal Coaching and brand management. I'm currently collaborating with a client to establish their startup.
My primary motivation for this venture revolves around the value I can provide to others rather than merely focusing on financial gain. I've also connected with other Medium writers, such as Os Ishmael, Vivian Robert, Ph.D., and Vincent, to engage in mastermind sessions aimed at sharing insights and fostering mutual growth in coaching.
Section 1.2: Earnings Post-Purge
In March, I produced ten blogs on Medium, with five of them addressing the purge itself. It would be unwise not to leverage significant events like this to enhance traffic. Through my observations, I’ve found that posts discussing Medium’s operations tend to perform exceptionally well.
My earnings for March totaled around USD 65, just over A$ 100—my lowest monthly income since October. The likelihood of in-depth, well-researched articles thriving is quite slim, especially when compared to shorter pieces focused on Medium’s inner workings.
Chapter 2: The Road Ahead
The first video provides insights on purging memory and cache in After Effects, a crucial skill for creators aiming to optimize their workflow.
The second video is a tutorial on effectively clearing media and disk cache in After Effects, an essential practice for maintaining project efficiency.
Medium remains a treasure trove filled with talented writers. I've dedicated time to explore both new and established voices on the platform. Presently, I feel content with the subjects I’m tackling on my blog and in my personal writing.
Building a brand beyond Medium is crucial for establishing oneself as an individual writer, rather than just another contributor on the platform.
