For years, I felt lost. I was busy, yet consumed by feelings of depression, anger, and monotony. It turns out, I’m not alone; less than half of employees express satisfaction with their jobs, quiet quitting is a popular discussion, and many businesses struggle to fill vacancies.

However, I’ve recently experienced a shift. I now wake up eager to write and engage with my work. The journey to rediscovering my calling has been transformative. I realized I had to identify specific signs that guided me toward meaningful changes. Here are seven indicators that can help you focus your efforts and live a fulfilling life:

Section 1.1: Signs of Passion

  1. Single-Minded Focus

Passion often resembles obsession. Think back to your past infatuations—especially in the initial stages when they consumed your thoughts. I find myself constantly brainstorming article ideas, drawing inspiration from my experiences, and reflecting on ways to enhance my writing. From various biographies and interviews, it’s clear that this kind of focus is common among high achievers. It’s a delightful burden that elevates your spirit without overwhelming you.

  2. Continuous Growth

Your true calling differs from the structured learning of school. I excelled academically in my early years, but it felt obligatory. As I progressed, school lost its appeal and became monotonous. In contrast, discovering your passion means you become insatiably curious—you can’t stop reading, watching, and learning about it. You willingly invest in books and courses, organizing and studying materials purely for personal growth, even without external assignments.

  3. Sleep Becomes Secondary

Despite the physical toll of sleepless nights and early wake-up calls, the excitement of writing keeps me awake. I often find myself contemplating my next piece in the middle of the night! It’s important to note that this motivation isn’t driven by fear or deadlines; I publish on my own terms. When you find your passion, sleep can sometimes take a backseat.

  4. It’s a Compulsive Drive

The more you engage with your passion, the more you crave it. After beginning my writing journey on Medium in July 2022, I constantly adjusted my schedule to carve out more time for my craft. While many dread Mondays, I find myself squeezing in writing time on weekends, relishing every moment of it.

  5. Uninterrupted Focus

When you’re truly passionate, distractions fade away. Research indicates that passion can induce a flow state—an exhilarating experience where time seems to stand still, and your productivity peaks. During my writing sessions, I’m oblivious to emails, social media, and other interruptions; I become immersed in my work.

  6. Accepting Challenges

The creative process is often rewarding, but it also involves tedious tasks that are less glamorous. Completing an article may require additional efforts like creating images, optimizing for SEO, and tagging. If you genuinely love your craft, you embrace these tasks because they enhance your work and allow you to dive deeper into your passion.

  7. Finding Inspiration in Others

I frequently read articles outside my primary interests to learn and adapt successful techniques. After years of consuming self-improvement content, I often find it lacks depth. However, I analyze well-crafted articles, even if they seem basic, to understand the strategies behind them.

Section 1.2: The Importance of Patience

Your passion is not a fleeting crush; it demands a long-term commitment. Cultivating awareness of these signs is crucial. Consider journaling daily to reflect on your activities and identify any of these indicators. Don’t rush the process—seek out consistent signs over time. If your interest wanes, it might be time to explore new avenues.
