Chapter 1: The Essence of Meditation

Meditation is a deeply personal journey, and while it's tempting to emulate others, I encourage you to embrace your own unique path.

It’s not my meditative mindset that you should adopt, but rather your own.

If you find yourself drawn to meditation, you’re not alone; in fact, we all engage in some form of meditation, consciously or unconsciously. You may feel a connection to a specific meditation instructor, or you might prefer to navigate this journey independently. Personally, I draw inspiration from several teachers, but I ultimately adapt their teachings to fit my meditation style. This raises an interesting question: Are we ever truly solitary in our practice?

Meditation manifests in numerous forms. Whether in solitude or company, we have the ability to connect with ourselves. The type of meditation I favor—and teach—is group meditation, where we harness the collective energy of the group to enhance our shared experience. While you might feel inclined to take charge of your own mental and emotional landscape, my experience suggests we’re always interconnected during meditation. External thoughts, emotions, sounds, and even memories of loved ones may enter our minds, creating a rich tapestry of connections.

Throughout our meditative practice, we often believe we need to achieve certain goals, such as tranquility, grounding, love, or patience. While these aspirations hold some truth, it's vital to approach meditation without a rigid agenda. It should flow freely, much like a gentle stream winding its way down a mountainside—uncontrollable and natural.

At some point, you may seek guidance from others, and while I offer teaching and support, I never impose my views. This is crucial when searching for assistance in your practice. We can unite in meditation while still honoring our individual identities, ultimately discovering our divine selves.
