Discovering My Writing Journey: Meet Johnson
Written on
Chapter 1: Who Am I?
Greetings! I'm Johnson, though that's not my real name. I chose it as a pen name in honor of my father.
In case you recognize my work, I’ve penned pieces like "7 Ways Ed Sheeran's Processes Will Accelerate Your Writing Career" and "Is This The Life You Really Want?" The latter serves as a glimpse into my life while providing guidance on crafting an effective 'About Me' section. I was excited to find out there’s a dedicated publication for 'About Me' stories, allowing me to delve deeper into my experiences and connect with a broader audience.
I identify as an introvert, finding solitude more energizing than social interactions. I prefer meaningful discussions over small talk and have a keen interest in psychology, often drawing inspiration from understanding human behavior for storytelling. When I'm not creating—whether writing or sketching—I find myself eagerly anticipating the moment I can return to my craft.
Chapter 2: My Profession and Passions
During the day, I work as a content designer in North West England, focusing on enhancing user experiences within government services. In addition to my professional pursuits, I indulge in various hobbies, including:
- Writing
- Drawing
- Traveling
- Playing guitar (mostly covers)
- Running until my legs call it quits
Why do I write? To me, writing is a pathway to success, which I define as:
- Earning enough to support my family and cover my bills
- Helping others along my journey
- Constantly honing my craft, as I see writing as an art form to master
Since I began writing seriously in March, I’ve embraced this as a fantastic learning opportunity while sharing my experiences with others.
Chapter 3: My Writing Focus
I’ve discovered my writing trajectory has evolved since I began this journey. Like many newcomers, my topics have been varied as I experiment and gather data to steer my future direction.
I explore different subjects and tones, intrigued by readers’ reactions to my more confrontational pieces. My goal is to provoke thought and offer fresh perspectives. For instance, my piece titled "Give Me One Good Reason I Should Read You" aims to challenge assumptions.
Primarily, my writing can be categorized into:
- Writing tips
- Life lessons (a term I’m not entirely fond of)
- Unconventional topics—this inspired me to create a publication named The Offbeat, where I welcome everyone to contribute their unique stories.
Chapter 4: Progress and Reflections
Progress is often slower than anticipated, but I’m pleased to see my earnings steadily increasing:
- March: $22
- April: $57
- May: $85+
While I don’t regard follower count as a definitive metric, I’ve gained nearly 300 followers in three months, suggesting I’m on the right track! Positive feedback on my writing style has been encouraging, especially comments praising its personality.
This response means a lot to me since, in real life, my voice might blend into the background. Writing provides me with a platform to articulate my thoughts coherently and connect with readers who appreciate my insights.
Chapter 5: My Mission to Support Fellow Writers
I believe that writing in isolation limits our growth. We often miss out on feedback that can shape our future work and the collaborative benefits that enrich our experiences.
I extended an offer for feedback in one of my articles but was surprised by the limited response. My intent isn’t to position myself as an expert but rather to provide a supportive perspective as a fellow writer. Sometimes, we can become too close to our work to see it clearly, and a fresh pair of eyes can offer invaluable insights.
I aim to assist as many writers as possible, whether through direct engagement or by sharing knowledge in my articles. I warmly invite anyone interested to reach out and connect!
Thanks for taking the time to read my story!
