Chapter 1: The Madness of Daily Writing
Does the concept of writing every day ever strike you as odd?

Are we all just a bit crazy? Let’s find out! For the past month, I've been sharing my thoughts on Medium, aiming to publish one piece each day. As I write this, I've successfully shared 33 articles. That’s a significant amount of writing and a considerable time investment.
While some pieces came together in just a few hours, others demanded days of effort, not to mention the extensive editing process. I'm certainly not alone in this endeavor; many of my fellow writers also commit to a daily posting schedule. This leads to a fundamental question:
Why are we engaging in this madness?
Indeed, it seems a bit insane. Yet, I wonder if there's something deeper at play. Why do I find myself writing daily on this platform?
There are several clear reasons for me: I genuinely love writing—it's one of my favorite activities. I enjoy sharing my work for various personal reasons. The sense of community here is invigorating. Plus, a little extra income is always welcome.
However, these motivations alone don’t fully explain my actions. I could pursue these interests in alternative ways without needing to post on Medium. Let me challenge my own reasoning: I’ve been penning my thoughts privately for years without the need for public sharing. There are countless venues for sharing my work. The community aspect is indeed real, but other platforms offer that as well. And let’s face it, I could earn significantly more by taking on a side job.
After this introspective exploration, are we any closer to understanding our motivations?
I believe it’s challenging to pinpoint what drives someone—myself included—to create content daily. But I’ll try to summarize why we are doing this!
It’s still a kind of insanity, but perhaps a different flavor.
One unique aspect of this content creation process, despite its drawbacks, is the immediate feedback loop it provides. This can be quite addictive.
Let me elaborate: I also contribute to literary magazines and have had a few pieces published in smaller publications. The wait for feedback there can be excruciatingly long, making it difficult to gauge the impact of your writing.
On Medium, you can share your thoughts and receive feedback in a matter of hours. Yes, there will be plenty of misses, particularly at the start. But when something resonates? It’s an incredible feeling.
So, that’s my current hypothesis: a mix of writing joy and the rush of dopamine. It’s a form of madness I can embrace.
What do you think? Perhaps I’m the one who’s truly crazy.
