Chapter 1: Finding Your Motivation
Are you struggling with motivation? The journey to becoming the person you aspire to be can often feel overwhelming. Recently, I experienced a moment of clarity while grappling with feelings of inadequacy. It dawned on me that perhaps I needed to reach a specific milestone to unlock my true potential.

I began to immerse myself in some crucial questions that this phase of life has posed: Who do I envision becoming in the next three, six, or twelve months? What emotions should I embrace? What does my future hold? (I can’t help but think of a whimsical Disney production titled “Life of Mel.”)
To tackle these inquiries, I started breaking them down and outlining actionable steps. I followed up with more focused questions:
- What actions are necessary to achieve my goals?
- Does this mean removing negative influences from my life?
- Am I prioritizing self-education?
- How can I better organize my life?
- Am I aware of my daily choices?
I've consciously been working to shift my habits to serve my future self. This doesn't imply abandoning enjoyment; instead, it encourages me to stay disciplined and prioritize my aspirations.
A few weeks back, I found myself in a slump. However, this wasn’t a typical pity party; it was a surge of motivation toward the life I desire and the person I want to become.
In challenging times, I often turn to journaling to identify ways to present a more positive version of myself. I set deadlines, crafted achievable goals to keep my spirits high, and began executing daily tasks that would drive my transformation. Among my priorities are:
- Using social media with intention rather than mindlessly scrolling.
- Sticking to a consistent sleep schedule to support my circadian rhythm, aiming for 7 to 8 hours each night.
- Reading ten pages daily. This may not seem significant, but as someone who isn't fond of books, it's a challenge. Starting with just two pages on my first day, I gradually worked my way up to ten, becoming more engaged with each read.
- Reaching out to at least one person each week for potential collaboration.
- Taking a 10 to 15-minute morning walk to enjoy the fresh air. It may sound minor, but it’s essential for my mental clarity, especially when faced with a busy day ahead.
- Committing to five workouts each week that last over 30 minutes. I’m not aiming for extreme workouts, but I recognize the physical and mental benefits of dedicating time to exercise.
If I’m honest, viewing the bigger picture can be daunting and anxiety-inducing. However, breaking down my goals into manageable daily tasks has the power to transform my life. What seems trivial on a single day can accumulate over 360 days into significant change.
So, I remind myself that momentum will build, even when motivation wanes. Progress is made as long as I strive to embody the person I wish to be. There will be good months, tough months, and emotional months.
