A Strategic Six-Month Business Plan for 2024

Chapter 1: Introduction to My Business Journey
As a solopreneur, I find my path continually transforming, and I'm now prioritizing strategic planning.
So far, 2024 has been a remarkable year in my nonprofit engagement and fundraising efforts. Some days, I can hardly believe my luck—not only is my consulting venture thriving, but I genuinely enjoy my work and the clients I serve. It hardly feels like a job.
The nonprofit consulting landscape is vast, and I am fortunate to collaborate with inspiring colleagues who are making a significant impact. At Altrui, my company, we concentrate on partnering with nonprofits focused on issues like immigration, domestic violence, youth homelessness, and animal rights.
Initially, I set out to specialize in donor relationship building and fundraising. Every day is a new opportunity to learn and grow.
As time passed, I ventured into areas I never expected to explore, such as recruitment. A client once approached me to assist in finding a new member for their fundraising team. I found it exciting to contribute to selecting someone who would implement the plans I had developed. It turned out to be a successful experience!
Shortly after, another client requested help with recruiting, and I eagerly accepted. This year, I was especially excited to lead the search for a new CEO for an organization—a truly rewarding experience.
While I wrapped up that search and initiated a monthly donor campaign for a client, I took a moment to outline my objectives for the latter half of 2024. What areas should I focus on? Are there any changes I want to implement? How do I feel about my website and blog? What enhancements can I make to ensure my clients are thrilled with my services and find true value in what I provide?
I’m also integrating financial planning into my strategy. For the first time in over four years of operating my business, I'm drafting an expense plan aimed at either building or sustaining my venture. Reflecting on my past expenses, I realize many did not contribute to this goal.
This will require some tough choices, especially since there are groups and events I enjoy participating in that do not align with my work at Altrui, yet I’ve used company funds for them.
Additionally, I'm reevaluating my travel plans. I typically make several trips to Tijuana during this season, along with at least one extended visit back to Denver. My trips to Tijuana serve both business and personal purposes, as I volunteer there in addition to working with clients. I want to prioritize the business aspect during those visits.
As for Denver, it feels like home. I have clients there, and I need to balance my time between working on Altrui and enjoying time with friends and family—unless I'm on vacation, of course!
Lastly, I’m contemplating expanding the types of nonprofits I collaborate with, particularly those addressing youth poverty. Many of my current clients already serve those in need, making this addition a natural fit with our values.
I'm excited about my six-month plan to ensure a successful continuation of 2024 and to support as many incredible missions as possible.
Take calculated risks. Offer your services. Uplift your friends and colleagues. Spread kindness.
