Chapter 1: The Impact of Spamming on Medium
Sometimes, you just don't feel like writing. Your drafts might not inspire you, and your motivation is low. It's a rough day…
What could be causing this lack of enthusiasm? A spammer in my notifications.
Have you ever experienced a flood of alerts from one individual who claps for and comments on many of your stories in mere minutes? At first, I suspected it might be an automated bot.
If your method of "engagement" with fellow writers involves this kind of behavior, it's time to stop! You're not contributing positively to the community.
My read ratio has plummeted from a monthly average of 66% to a mere 23% today, and I absolutely despise it! After putting in so much effort to maintain that valuable read ratio, one person can undo it all in no time.
Even worse, when I reached out to him to ask him to stop, he continued his actions. Ultimately, I had to block him. I never imagined facing this issue so early in my Medium journey.
The experience on Medium can feel like a roller-coaster ride. You find a method for growth, only for the algorithm to shift unexpectedly. You adapt, manage to gain visibility, and then realize that your other stories have suddenly lost traction.
The boost you experienced fades, leaving you feeling relieved, only for your follower count to inexplicably decline. Medium provides explanations, but the algorithm has changed once again.
Just when you think you've seen it all, a spammer arrives to devastate your read ratio!
