Staying Active and Entertained: Fun YouTube Workouts

Chapter 1: The Benefits of YouTube Workouts
I've learned that maintaining my fitness is easier without hitting the gym. Going to the gym often left me feeling ravenous, leading me to indulge in excessive eating at home, thinking I could justify it due to my workout efforts. However, I found a more effective and economical solution: engaging with YouTube workout videos almost daily for a decade. Mixing up my routine with a variety of exercises allows me to achieve significant results in just 15–20 minutes each day, all from the comfort of my home, while avoiding hunger pangs. By combining these workouts with a focus on whole foods and portion control, I’m successfully warding off many common health issues associated with aging.
Thanks to the vast array of online resources, including weight training, yoga, Pilates, low-impact cardio, and dance workouts, I can keep my body flexible, prevent injuries, and maintain high energy levels throughout my day—often feeling more agile than individuals half my age.
Over the years, despite my efforts to diversify, I keep returning to three specific fitness personalities. Here are my top picks:
Pahla B - Dubbed “your fitness buddy for middle age,” Pahla’s videos primarily cater to women over 50. Each session lasts around 22 minutes and is designed to be enjoyable rather than intense. Her relatable approach makes it feel like she understands your struggles, almost as if she can sense your reluctance during tough exercises! With her background in occupational fitness, she emphasizes balance, strength, and stamina—key elements for aging gracefully. However, be prepared for her constant chatter; while great for motivation, some may need to take breaks from her enthusiastic monologues.
Lucy Wyndham-Read - Catering to all fitness levels, Lucy’s workouts are efficient and fun. Although she’s another talkative trainer, her positive demeanor encourages you to simply lower the volume if needed. With her military fitness experience, Lucy’s sessions range from 7 to 45 minutes and challenge you without being overly exhausting. I’ve learned from her that you can sculpt strong abs without traditional crunches. Her videos also include unique backdrops, from tranquil winter scenes to thrilling haunted forests, adding an element of surprise to each workout.
Walking On Line Workouts - I’m unsure of her name, but her no-nonsense approach is refreshing. Unlike the previous trainers, she opts for a silent workout style, focusing on walking and simple dance moves to popular music. Her videos take place in beautiful outdoor settings, such as beaches and scenic parks. Although her content operates on a subscription basis, there are a few free samples available online that are worth checking out.
I typically follow one of these trainers for three mornings each week. On other days, I might opt for a yoga or stretching session, or explore new dance styles like hip-hop or salsa. Occasionally, I’ll try Pilates or something unique like Yin Yoga to keep my routine fresh. And when the weather is nice, I prefer outdoor activities to soak up some sun!
Fitness should be enjoyable, not a chore. It can elevate your mood and enhance your spirit. By keeping your routine fun and engaging, you’re more likely to stick with it for the long haul.
If you have any favorite online trainers, I would love to hear your recommendations! I’m always on the lookout for new content to try.
