Reflecting on 2023: A Personal Inventory of Affections and Dislikes

Chapter 1: Embracing the Things We Adore
As I wrap up my final task for the month, I’m diving into Ruby Noir’s December challenge: compile a list of 10 things that bring you immense joy (people and pets are off-limits), followed by 10 things that you absolutely loathe (again, no people, and phobias aren't allowed).
Things I Love
- Chocolate: Whether it's rich dark or creamy milk chocolate, I can't resist. As a chocolate lover, I can easily discern quality. Organic options definitely taste superior.
- Sunny Skies: There’s something enchanting about blue skies adorned with fluffy white clouds, reminiscent of cotton candy drifting on a gentle breeze.
- Snoopy: The Peanuts comic strip was an essential part of my Sunday ritual, and Snoopy stands out as the most charming dog. If given a chance, I’d welcome him into my home without hesitation.
- Christmas: I relish the festive spirit, the glimmer of lights, and the joy of gift-giving, as perfectly captured by Adrian CDTPPW.
- The Beach: The tranquility of sun-soaked shores and rhythmic waves is a true balm for the soul.
- Cell Phones: In today’s fast-paced world, a cellphone is practically a necessity, serving as our portable library, secretary, and more.
- Movies and Books: They transport us through time, exploring the lives of both fictional and real characters, allowing our imaginations to soar.
- Music: A great tune can instantly elevate your mood and bring joy.
- My Computer: For tasks requiring more screen space and processing power, my computer remains indispensable.
- Fashion: While I wouldn’t label myself a fashionista, I enjoy varying my wardrobe according to the seasons, appreciating the versatility of my collection.

Things I Dislike

- Dog Waste: My encounter with dog poop was nothing short of traumatic. I might share this tale someday, but it’s likely no one wants to hear about my plumbing misadventure. Stepping in dog mess is a shared nightmare.
- Loud Noises: Firecrackers are intended to celebrate occasions, especially during the Chinese New Year, but they often disrupt my peace.
- Cigarette Smoke: Enduring second-hand smoke is unpleasant. I'm grateful for regulations protecting children from such environments.
- Mosquitoes: Living in a temperate climate means dealing with swarms of mosquitoes, especially after rain. They’re a nuisance, and I’d gladly eradicate them if I could.
- Advertisements: The excitement of receiving mail has faded, replaced by bills and endless junk mail. I still appreciate the occasional Christmas card from friends.
- Spam Messages: While messages can be uplifting, those from scammers are a scourge. It’s disheartening how good intentions can be misused.
- Fruit Seeds: Although I love fruit, the presence of seeds is off-putting. The idea of chewing them is unappealing.
- Cavities: Refer to my "Poisonous Apple" tale for more on this topic.
- Stinky Tofu: My aversion to this dish is strong; the smell alone triggers a sneezing fit if I’m too close.
- Parmesan Cheese: While it seems to delight many, I can’t appreciate its pungent aroma in dishes.
I could likely extend this list if not for the constraints. Am I unique in my preferences? What would your lists include? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments or see you share your own lists!
