<An In-Depth Journey Through Prague: A 13-Hour Adventure>

Written on

I embarked on a 13-hour walking adventure through the heart of Prague.

Morning Starter Pack

After a long day of shooting, I collapsed into bed as soon as I returned to my accommodation, even skipping breakfast. Before I could drift off again, my mind raced with thoughts about the crowded bathroom and a friend who had trouble waking up.

Feeling restless and eager to explore Prague while my companions were still asleep, I quickly showered and slipped out. Thankfully, I wasn’t alone in enjoying the peaceful morning; the early risers of Prague were already out and about! The cool breeze filled the air as I set off, planning to treat myself to a small cupcake.

This seemingly simple cupcake, with its charming flavor, surprised me with its delightful taste. Filled with strawberry jam and infused with vanilla, each bite was a heavenly experience. I had no expectations, but the warm, fresh bread was a joy to savor, and I attribute this to my early start.

The Hanging Freud Sculpture

This remarkable sculpture, known as the Hanging Freud, is cleverly placed and requires a keen eye to spot. It appears to defy gravity, with one arm outstretched while the other rests casually in his pocket, radiating a sense of ease despite its precariousness.

The installation of such a sculpture atop a tall building raises intriguing questions about the artist's intent. Does it symbolize a carefree acceptance of fate, or remind us to stay composed amidst life’s challenges? The interpretations could vary, but I believe discussing these ideas fosters intellectual development.

While art is often viewed as an intellectual pursuit, this piece engages a broader audience more effectively than many traditional artworks, sparking curiosity in unique ways.

Statue of Josef Jungmann

On my way to the cathedral, I stumbled upon this statue of Josef Jungmann, a notable poet and linguist in the Czech Republic. With a solemn expression and a pen in hand, he is commemorated for his significant contributions to the Czech language, having refined around 120,000 words.

The statue’s patina reveals its history, and Jungmann’s attire represents the glory of his legacy. His thoughtful demeanor reflects the depth of his artistic contemplation.

The mind drives all actions, yet it is our hands and words that truly shape the world. As the saying goes, “History is made by the rulers’ hands.” Decisions crafted from careful thought ultimately manifest through our actions. What choices will I make in the future? This remains an uncertain journey.

Church of Our Lady of the Snows

This cathedral stands out as the most magnificent structure I encountered in Prague. While its exterior is modest, the interior is an extravagant display of Gothic and Renaissance styles, featuring archangels that add to its splendor.

The nave’s subdued atmosphere and the cathedral’s radiant ambiance create a striking yet harmonious contrast, enhancing the overall experience.

Rabbit Leg Stew & Deer Leg Steak

After visiting the cathedral, I met my friend at a restaurant called U Pinkas?. We were excited to try deer meat, a rarity in Korea.

Despite not having a reservation, we were lucky to get a table around 1 p.m. Eager to taste both deer steak and rabbit meat, we ordered one of each, accompanied by a Czech lager, Pilsner Urquell.

The Pilsner Urquell was refreshing and smooth, awakening our appetites with its nutty aroma.

When our dishes arrived, we were in for a treat.

Deer Leg Steak: This meat was reminiscent of rich, flavorful beef. The sweet rosehip and steak sauces complemented the potentially gamey taste, while the tart yellow berries added a refreshing contrast.

Rabbit Leg Stew: The rabbit was akin to flavorful chicken, with a mild sauce that enhanced its taste. The addition of bacon and mushrooms enriched the dish, making it a delightful experience.

These dishes, paired with the beer, made for a perfect culinary interlude, invigorating our spirits for the adventures ahead.

Old Town Bridge Tower & Karl Bridge

With our appetites satisfied, it was time to explore again! The first two photos showcase the iconic landmarks I often passed while heading to Prague Castle. These architectural gems are even more breathtaking in person, bustling with tourists.

Entering the Bridge Tower leads to the Charles Bridge, which elegantly connects the western and eastern parts of the city. As the sun sets, the bridge glows against the clear sky, creating a picturesque scene.

Underneath the Charles Bridge, you’ll find spaces to feed pigeons and benches for relaxation. Sitting there, gazing at the flowing Vltava River, solidified our arrival in Prague.

Dancing House

Designed by architect Frank Gehry, this modern structure features a unique curved design, standing in stark contrast to the Gothic buildings surrounding it. The rooftop bar, accessible from the first floor, offers stunning views of Prague Castle.

Vltava River

At Letna Park, perched on a high hill, I captured this photo. It’s a popular spot for locals walking their dogs and enjoying the playground.

My friend and I even indulged in some nostalgic rides, a testament to our youthful spirits! The park offers breathtaking views of the Vltava River, which glistens with boats as the sun sets.

Dinner & Conclusion

As my day in the Czech Republic comes to an end, I treat myself to dessert. After a long day on my feet, I craved something sweet rather than a full meal. Some might find it odd to have dessert for dinner, but the day’s experiences have left me utterly satisfied.

The shop owner welcomed me warmly, and I decided to sample one of each dessert available. The choux pastry outer layer complemented the cream filling beautifully, with the powdered sugar subtly enhancing the flavors. Although smaller than expected, the delightful pistachio and chocolate flavors stood out.

The cream harmonized perfectly with the pastry, especially when paired with coffee. I would return to this shop in a heartbeat if I revisit Prague.

Tonight marks our last evening in Prague. We’ve all taken the opportunity to freely explore the city one last time. Tomorrow, we’re off to a small town called ?eský Krumlov, and everyone is excited about the new adventures awaiting us.

To prepare for tomorrow, we agreed to get some rest early. Managing one shower for four people has been a challenge, yet we’ve adapted our schedules over the week. Our growing teamwork has been a bittersweet experience.

I’ll wrap up my story here. Thank you for reading my post today.
