Exploring My Journey: From Africa to Australia and Beyond

Written on

Chapter 1: Early Life in Africa

I was born on a picturesque farm in Africa during the late 1980s. My childhood was filled with joy, and I hold dear the beautiful memories I created there.

The warm summer mornings spent exploring the savanna remain vivid in my mind. I can still recall the sight of a Sable standing proudly on a rocky ledge, the distinctive call of Guinea Fowl resonating across the hills, and the refreshing aroma of rain hitting the parched earth. The breathtaking African sunsets, with wildlife outlined against the glowing horizon, are moments I deeply miss. Africa is truly a captivating land, and its essence is forever embedded in my soul.

Chapter 2: A New Beginning in Australia

In the early 2000s, we relocated to Australia under challenging circumstances. We were fortunate to find ourselves in a land rich with opportunities and warmth. After completing my education, I pursued a degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Project Management.

Following my graduation, I worked in various roles within the civil construction industry, starting as a site engineer and progressing to project manager. Throughout this time, I embraced the adventures that Australia had to offer—hiking, camping, scuba diving, and fishing were just a few of my pursuits. I also traveled abroad, exploring New Zealand, Africa, and the Americas.

After returning from a memorable trip to South America, I married my soulmate, and together we embarked on the incredible journey of parenthood with our two wonderful boys.

This video, "Episode 72 of The Icehouse Podcast: Warren Thurlow, Owner Manager Programme #46 Alumni," shares insights into my entrepreneurial journey and challenges faced along the way.

Chapter 3: Entrepreneurship and Challenges

I ventured into business ownership by acquiring a small construction company, which I operated for six years. This experience was filled with both triumphs and setbacks, allowing me to refine my investment skills and grow as a leader. However, my relentless pursuit of success led me to experience burnout and anxiety, culminating in debilitating panic attacks. Prioritizing my mental health and family, I made the difficult decision to step away from the business.

I returned to project management, where I continue to thrive today.

Chapter 4: The Healing Power of Writing

In my quest to manage anxiety, I discovered that writing served as a therapeutic outlet, helping me process my thoughts and emotions. I began to enjoy writing and realized that sharing my experiences could be beneficial to others. This prompted me to join Medium, where I aim to connect with a broader audience and share my insights.

I aspire to write a book one day, honing my skills and contributing positively to the world. My writing primarily focuses on wildlife, travel, and the lessons I've learned throughout my life.

The video "Am I Letting You Care For Me (Worship Set) - Jon Thurlow" reflects my journey and the importance of support and care in overcoming life's challenges.
