Embrace Your Resistance: Strategies to Achieve Your Goals

Written on

Chapter 1: Understanding Resistance

Welcome to the realm of resistance! It’s a journey that many of us face, particularly when striving to reach our aspirations. After experiencing a life-altering event, like being hit by a vehicle, I found myself amidst this struggle.

Overcoming personal struggles to achieve goals

As I work on rebuilding my life, I confront the daunting task of committing to my physical therapy. The exercises are neither particularly challenging nor time-consuming, yet I find myself resisting them.

What’s the underlying issue? It’s not the difficulty of the task, but rather my reluctance to engage in it. I often feel frustrated, believing that after four long years, I should be beyond this point. I didn’t cause the accident, so why must I continue to bear the weight of recovery?

Welcome to the resistance, a familiar place for many. Perhaps you feel that you shouldn’t have to venture into entrepreneurship, trusting that your skills and reputation alone will suffice. Or, as a talented writer, you may wonder why your book isn’t flowing onto the page despite years of practice.

The reality is that success requires time and persistence. If it were simple, everyone would achieve their dreams. True success often unfolds over a span of 5 to 10 years. Malcolm Gladwell’s concept of 10,000 hours of practice highlights the commitment necessary to attain greatness.

After three and a half years post-accident, a medical professional warned me my health would deteriorate annually. At that moment, I was filled with dread, but I refused to accept that fate.

Fast forward a year, and I’ve managed to reclaim much of my life. I’m walking again, my pain is under control, and I’ve achieved new heights in my sales career. Despite my progress, the physical therapy exercises still elude me. I grapple with whether my reluctance is due to a desire for recognition of my struggle or simply frustration at my ongoing battle.

I realize that my anger has fueled my determination, but it’s also left me exhausted. The truth is, I’m weary of this fight. The exercises symbolize my struggle, and I yearn for closure.

Meanwhile, the individual responsible for my accident faced minimal consequences, which feels profoundly unjust. I lost my career, friendships, reputation, and most importantly, the sense of control over my life.

Chapter 2: The Illusion of Safety

The first video, "Welcome to the Resistance," illustrates the challenges of overcoming personal barriers.

In the second video, "Welcome To The Resistance: Avatar Frontiers Of Pandora," we explore themes of resilience and risk-taking.

I often find myself longing for the body I once had, the one that was strong and capable. This body feels foreign to me, and I wrestle with the notion of control. If I fix my leg, I may have to confront the unpredictability of life once more—a reality I had safely navigated before the accident.

Life is inherently risky, and the facade of safety we cling to is merely an illusion. We’re taught that adhering to all the rules will keep us safe, yet my experience has shown me that tragedy can strike unexpectedly.

If following safety protocols doesn’t guarantee protection, we must ask ourselves: what does it truly mean to live? Yes, continue to take sensible precautions, but don’t let fear dictate your choices.

Embrace the things that terrify you, for if we’re all destined to face the end of our lives, why not take the leap? This mindset can be liberating.

Chapter 3: Becoming a Resistance Fighter

Take that first step towards your dreams, one day at a time. Write your book, regardless of the outcome. If you enjoy writing, why not pursue it? You might just surprise yourself with what you create.

Reach out to potential clients without fear of rejection. The worst that could happen is simply a “no.” In my experience, out of thousands of calls, only one resulted in a slam of the phone.

Step onto the stage, sing your heart out, and dance freely. The potential for fulfillment far outweighs the fear of failure.

The greatest risk of all? Living a life dictated by the illusion of safety and missing out on your true desires.

So, pursue what matters to you. Take the leap. Start today.

Be courageous. Acknowledge your resistance and tackle it head-on. Become a fighter in your own narrative.

As for me, I’ve resolved to confront my own challenges. I’ll commit to my physical therapy, embracing the risk that it might just lead to recovery and a revitalized life.
