The teardown team from iFixit discovered the Vision Pro to be an exceptionally advanced gadget, making the disassembly process quite intricate due to the integrated glass panel. The team utilized heat guns and specialized tools to detach the cover glass successfully.

The glass panel alone weighs 34 grams; however, the overall weight of the Vision Pro, including its battery pack, exceeds 1 kilogram. Notably, repairs for this glass can be quite costly, with Apple charging $799 for after-sales service.

The design of the Vision Pro includes speakers on either side that accommodate a SIM card pin, featuring a flat connector design. Furthermore, Apple employs a distinct cable for the battery, resembling an oversized Lightning connector, which requires a clip for removal.

The hardware operates on Apple's M2 chip alongside a dedicated R1 chip designed for processing data from 12 cameras, LiDAR sensors, and TrueDepth cameras, which significantly minimizes image latency to just 12 milliseconds.

The teardown also revealed various other features, including an automatic inter-pupillary distance (IPD) adjustment system, a layered display hierarchy, and an extensive array of sensors. Given the complexity of the Vision Pro's internal structure, disassembly is quite labor-intensive, posing challenges for maintenance.

While iFixit commended the innovative aspirations of the Vision Pro, they also highlighted areas needing improvement, such as the camera weight and battery connection design. On the launch day, CEO Tim Cook visited the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue, New York, and expressed uncertainty about the availability of the Vision Pro in China, reassuring that it would be soon.

The Vision Pro is priced at $3,499, available in 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB configurations.
